Her brother Eric is part owner of a vehicle modification shop near Portland. She graduated from Sunset High School in Beaverton in 1998. She began swimming at a young age and high school had plans to go pro until her right knee was injured.
Her first role was in the Lifetime movie Fifteen and pregnant when she played a teenager with a baby. The film played Kirsten Dunst and motivated her to move to Hollywood and pursue a career as an actor after graduating high school.
Sarnoff' most famous role as Kara "Starbuck" Thrace in the mini-series and follow up TV series Battlestar Galactica which she won a Saturn Award in 2005 for best actress on TV.
Sackhoff is set to star in the action thriller werewolf Growl. She will also make a special appearance in the Futurama episode "Lrrreconcilable Ndndifferences".
